Music for The Tempest -Shakespearian ode

Barokorkest, koor en solisten van het Koninklijk Conservatorium

directed by Patrick Ayrton

At the age of 14 Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Thomas Linley Jr. were best friends during their stay in Florence. Mozart was visiting with his father, Linley was studying violin with Nardini. The musicologist Charles Burney mentions in the memoirs of his travels in Italy that the two boys were creating quite a stir as musical geniuses. Linley died of a fatal accident at the age of 22 in England, but left a number of surprising works which have very likely never been performed in the Netherlands. These include "Music for The Tempest" and a "Lyric Ode on the Fairies, Aerial Beings and Witches of Shakespeare”, composed 150 years after the death of the playwright.
